Jim, K5ND, has published a nice little ebook on 6 meter operation. It's only 49 pages but full of info on propagation, equipment, etc. And it's free!

Thanks for the post Dave. I downloaded the book and read it all in one session. 6m is the band I have used least in my ham career. Some years ago I picked up a DND military ground plane antenna - minus its vertical element. It is very rugged as you would expect for a piece of military hardware. I replaced the missing vertical element with an aluminum rod and it works very well on 6m. Of course, it's vertically polarized but that shouldn't matter for skywave propagation. Maybe its time to dig it out and give it another try.
