Net Report 22Mar2023 - Richard VE3OZW - 2023-03-23 Net Controller — VE3OZW Richard - Otter Creek I often wonder if anyone reads these posts. We need your help by submitting ideas for topics via this forum. This is a net for all of us. Help out your fellow club members and net controllers by submitting topics for future nets. Reply to this thread with any suggestions. Consider being a GBARC Net Controller (NC). It is a positive learning experience and great fun. The only scary part is if your pen runs out of ink while the calls are coming in! The more Net Controllers available, the less work for everyone. Currently, we have 4 NC's so each of us has to cover 1 night every 4 weeks. Imagine if we had more and doubled the number to 8. Topic for discussion - 1. Are you protected for thunderstorm season? 2. Why did you get into Amateur Radio? Was it for a) the technical aspect or b) the camaraderie / social 3. Open Mic is always an option. Dave VE3WI mentioned WLW in Ohio - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/WLW We also discussed WKRP in Cincinnati. Here's the ideal grounding device to give you peace of mind in lightning storms : http://www.mableaudio.com/en/productview.asp?sid=6036 Further to my item about WLW, here's a link to a story about Aspidistra, a big GE transmitter similar to WLW's, that the British bought & used to "hornswoggle" the Germans in WW2: https://www.nutsvolts.com/magazine/article/britains-raiding-dreadnought-of-the-ether/ WLW was built by Powel Crosley Jr. Here's a link to his Wikipedia bio. He was a busy guy! https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Powel_Crosley_Jr. 73 Dave, VE3WI (See, Richard, some of us DO read your posts!) RE: Net Report 22Mar2023 - VA3KOT John - 2023-03-23 These posts are vital for compiling the QNI Contest tables. Keep posting please! |
