45 videos, wow! He put a lot of work into this, very informative.
For IC-7300 owners, videos #43,44,45 cover the just-released Version 1.40 firmware. There are also ongoing discussions about this on QRZ.com & eHam.net. The update appears to be just changes to the user interface, not the actual RX or TX signal processing. That's too bad, I was hoping ICOM had listened to all the comments about the overly harsh-sounding audio.
In #41 he covers dedicated external autotuners (i.e. those that are designed to talk to the rig with a control cable). The IC-7300 can also work with non-dedicated remote autotuners like those from MFJ & SGC which need ~10W carrier to activate:
Hard way: Manually reduce power to 10W. Switch to CW & press key, or switch to FM or AM & press PTT.
Easy way: Add a simple attachment connected to the tuner Molex socket on the back of the rig. Only a couple of resistors, diode, PB & Molex plug are needed. Pushing button causes the rig to put out a 10W carrier to activate tuner. Plans, kits & finished products can be found with a little googling. (SOTABEAMS in the UK sells a kit for $25 CDN shipped).
