POTA Comes to Owen Sound
#1
It's been a while since I checked the Parks On The Air map at pota.app. I missed a slew of new parks being designated as POTA entities. All the Grey Sauble Conservation Authority properties have been added fairly recently. That means there are now several new activatable parks near Owen Sound.

Hibou CA VE-5651
Indian Falls CA VE-5655
Inglis Falls CA VE-5627
GSCA Admin Centre & Arboretum VE-5662
The Glen Management Area VE-5665
Hepworth Management Area VE-5663
Bognor Marsh Management Area VE-5659

There are even more new POTA entities a short drive from Owen Sound.

I activated the GSCA Admin Centre and Arboretum (VE-5662) yesterday. I wasn't the first (Carson VA3OSO had that honour) but my 27 CW QSOs earned me the park leader position. It was a good afternoon with contacts in Puerto Rico, Portugal and Spain.

Maybe POTA will add the Saugeen Valley Conservation Authority parks next!

It's maybe a good idea to hold off activations at The Glen (VE-5665) for a while. This sign was posted at the entrance today.

I haven't checked the POTA map lately but I think all of the Conservation Areas should be added. Some already have been added recently but there are a lot more. Southern Ontario has plenty of nice areas which would qualify for POTA and would only be a short drive away.

In the US they have marshes, forests and wet lands with POTA designations. As long as it is not private or shared land it can qualify for POTA designation.

The person in charge of mapping in Canada is Pierre Jolin VE2GT. Might be worth contacting him if you have some in mind.
