Field Day Feedback Please
Posted by: VA3KOT John - 2022-06-27, 08:46:12 - Forum: Contesting - Replies (8)

Whether you attended FD2022 or not, your feedback, opinions and suggestions are needed to help with future planning. For example:
Should we still hold a group Field Day next year, and if so, should we change how we participate?

 • Strictly contest oriented
 • Public demonstration only, no contest entry
 • Mainly social gathering
What else can you suggest? Please reply to this post with your ideas.

NB: Suggestion from Jim VA3MFO re 2m net
It is sometimes difficult to check-in from the "other end of the link" due to the timeouts on the two repeaters. Therefore net controllers should ask for check-ins from each repeater separately.

Contest ends 13:59 EDT Sunday 26th June

Logging
Adam VE3FP has volunteered to coordinate submitting the logs as long as every station uses networked N1MM. Station captains should contact Adam about this prior to the event.h

Power
A Honda 2KW inverter generator, gasoline and long extension cord will be available (courtesy John VA3KOT)

Social Attendees:
Responses have been received from the following who have expressed an interest in attending during the event:
Eric  VE3FYB
Rob VE3RWY
David VE3BAK
Dave VE3WI

Publicity
None arranged. Since our event this year may be lightly attended it may reflect poorly on the club's image as an emergency communications provider. Hopefully this is attributable to the lack of momentum resulting from the 2-year Covid hiatus and will improve in future years.

Accommodation
Trailers and tents may be set up on site. Overnight stays are permitted. Owen Sound police will be notified prior to the event.

Meals
Due to the low response from the club it has not been possible to make arrangements for communal meals. Everybody attending should make their own arrangements.

June Club Meeting
The June GBARC general club meeting will be convened at noon on Saturday 25th June at the event HQ.

SOME MESSAGES FOR ALL OF US
Posted by: VE3WI Dave - 2022-06-15, 08:24:06 - Forum: Opinion - No Replies

The editorial by ARRL CEO David Minster NA2AA in the June QST is a particularly good one.  If you just replace "ARRL" with "RAC" in a few places, the messages he's sending apply equally to us in Canada.  I asked ARRL and got permission to post the editorial here.

Think about how you score relative to his 5 item checklist (or at least the first 4).  What could each of us be doing to preserve and grow amateur radio?

Jason’s focus has been on promoting and educating his local communities about Amateur Radio and the benefits of the service in our community. He previously served as the Director of Community Services for the Barrie Amateur Radio Club and served as its Vice-President and worked with the public and community groups and other organizations for public and educational events.

Jason’s background is in Emergency Services and Security. He previously volunteered with St John Ambulance and with the Red Cross as an Instructor and a member of Disaster Services, where he “learned about working with others and the critical need for great support and defined training systems”.
